We are "Belgraid", a registered NGO set up in early 2017 to provide a unified response to the humanitarian crisis in Serbia. We work alongside a number of partners such as "Help Refugees" and "Oxfam" to provide food, clothing and other essential services to refugees and migrants living in camps around northern/central Serbia.

We have a young staff and flat hierarchies here - everyone is equal. If you have ideas we are more than glad if you share them with us. The core team of long term volunteers are around ten people all together we are between 15 and 30 volunteers working at  Belgraid.

We are looking for experienced chefs and drivers to join our team, cooking and serving food for 1000-2000 refugees in Serbia.

As a regular volunteer (not a chef) you will help out in the kitchen preparing food, do distibutions of food and non-food items in different refugee camps, sorting clothes in our warehouse and whatever needs to be done around that.
We now work on doing activities in the camps and are looking for creative minds that have ideas and are motivated to lead them. Also we have a workshop on our site and office work to do.

We have a large house, with spacious shared rooms, within walking distance of our warehouse/kitchen on the outskirts of Belgrade.

Normally our volunteers pay 5€ per night to stay (all revenue from this goes straight back into funding the work that we do!) however we are happy to subsedise this for workers staying long term.

There are 2 bathrooms (with a shower), a shared kitchen and communal living room. Bedding is included.

Also there is a barbeque grill, a washing machine, an outdoor cinema and a fire place.

We usually provide 1 meal per day for people who are working and there is fresh lemonade with ginger and wild mint to keep everyone hydrated. For the rest of your time the cost of living, particularly food, is relatively low in Serbia so it doesn't take much to live comfortably here.

In your time off there are plenty of interesting cultural and natural places to visit around Belgrade, just a short bus ride away from our base of operations. Whilst the winters may be cold the spring/summer months are beautifully warm and sunny.

We require a commitment of at least 4 weeks service before the fee becomes negotiable. Totally free accommodation is generally only for people who stay long term (2-3 months +) and who fill an essential role.

This kind of volunteering is some of the most richly rewarding work that you could do. You will be working alongside people from all over the world united in the common goal of helping some of the most vulnerable and persecuted people on the planet.

Not only is this a great opportunity to develop and share your skills but you can also really see the difference that your work makes to the lives of the people you are helping. There is also plenty of opportunity to meet and interact with our beneficiaries during distributions, many of whom are very happy to share their experiences, language and culture with you.
