Immediate Opportunity for Dedicated Community Development Volunteers and Translators, to join the InterVolve team working alongside communities at Larissa-Koutsochero Camp.
InterVolve is a Greek, Non Profit Organisation taking grassroots action to facilitate basic human rights for refugees, migrants and vulnerable populations in Northern Greece. We fill gaps and offer resources and support. Since 2015, we have been fortunate to have had dedicated volunteers who have made a real difference, working alongside refugee communities in camps, and on urban projects. Building on these experiences, we are now expanding our team, so we can offer new resources to people facing ever changing and ever enduring challenges.
We are currently building a small team to work alongside the population of Larissa-Koutsochero camp. This camp, located 20km west of the beautiful student city of Larissa, has a current population of about 1200 people, with a maximum capacity of 1500. We are seeking to develop projects on and off camp which respond to community identified priorities and which promote wellbeing, skills development, self-determination, and integration.
Skills and Experience
The work will be varied and changeable and will require a flexible and creative approach as these projects are in infancy. We are looking for volunteers who will help us develop the best long term support possible at camp. This is a chance to help us build something that will have a long lasting impact.
Diversity is a strength at Intervolve, and is key to success for these projects. People with some, or all of the following experience or skills are welcome to apply:
We are searching for flexible, reliable, resilient, culturally sensitive, experienced and warm team-players, who will work in a respectful, inclusive, safe and community led way and in co-operation with the other NGOs and authorities on site. We need people who are motivated enough to learn together with the team, and to stick through the challenging process of building new projects with diverse communities. You should also be prepared to be working within the dynamics of a small team (five or less volunteers) and be living in a city which is removed from the social volunteer centres of Athens and Thessaloniki.
Your Commitment: We are looking for people who are able to commit to a minimum of a month in the first instance. We have a code of conduct and a volunteer agreement to adhere to, and also require that volunteers participate in debrief and support sessions so that we can keep people safe, and to ensure we achieve the best we can with the resources we have.
Our Commitment: Support and induction training will be given and for long term volunteers we may be able to offer accommodation. We are currently working hard to build new ways to support volunteers and ensure they are able to contribute to the best of their potential whilst maintaining wellbeing.
Application and Information: We are working on our new website - but you can currently see a good snapshot of our existing team and work at our Facebook Page. To apply please fill in the following form
